2008 Hudson Valley Thanksgiving - Pre-Game Planning
September 25, 2008
It might seem a bit early to start planning for Thanksgiving dinner but I learned my lesson the hard way last year. My goal
was to buy a fresh locally raised organic turkey last year. I found a place online called McEnroe Organic Farm in Millerton New
York. About a week before Thanksgiving we drove about 45 minutes to Millerton which is located in the center of Dutchess
Country. It was a perfect fall day, in fact the header and footer pictures on this website were taken during our drive. When we
finally arrived at McEnroe farm we instantly got excited when we saw the tractor trailer in the parking lot with “Fresh
Turkey” written on the side. The excitement disappeared once we discovered that they only sell by order and we would have to
wait another year to experience a locally raised organic Thanksgiving turkey.
This year I’m ahead of the game and my order is already in. A couple of months from now I’ll make the drive again up to
McEnroe’s, except this time I’ll be coming home with my bird.
McEnroe's is a fully organic farm producing livestock, vegetables and flowers. Their turkeys are certified organic and
completely free of growth hormones. No short cuts are taken and according to McEnroe's website the turkey's diet is equivalent
to a "four-star dining experience". The result is a moist and flavorful bird that is nearly impossible to dry out. If you are
interested in ordering call (518) 789-9326.
Stay tuned for updates of my Hudson Valley Thanksgiving.
